The ordinary vinyl windows on the market are often designed and built for low cost, not for value. They often have mechanically fastened sashes, inexpensive and less reliable block-and-tackle or spiral balance systems, and off-the-shelf hardware that does not match the color of the vinyl or other hardware. Additional costs are reduced by using clear glass, rather than thermally efficient low “E” glass, and by using old-fashioned aluminum spacers between the glass, rather than new low-conductance technology.
